In the late 1960s, Jerry Lohr embarked on a quest to find the perfect site for his first vineyard, drawing from his agricultural upbringing in South Dakota. His exploration led him to the Central Coast of California, a region ripe for winegrowing potential. In January 2010, J. Lohr became one of the initial seventeen vineyards in California to receive the Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing distinction from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.
The J. Lohr Estates Los Osos Merlot is cultivated in El Pomar, where the well-draining Nacimiento-Los Osos soils contribute to its character. This Merlot offers enticing aromas of ripe black cherry and pomegranate, complemented by notes of chocolate and coconut from the barrel aging process. The finish is marked by bright fruit tones and soft tannins.
This fuller-bodied Merlot pairs beautifully with Hunan-style spare ribs, lamb chops drizzled with blackberry gastrique, or decadent chocolate brownies topped with confit raspberries. It also complements cheeses such as Monterey Jack and Dubliner Irish.
Please drink responsibly.
