Jim Beam Black has always been the bottle bourbon drinkers reach for when they want a step up without the sticker shock. In 2024, Beam made it even better, bringing back a 7-year age statement, refining the liquid, and dressing it in a sharp new bottle. It's the grown-up Beam, and it's earned a permanent spot on our shelves.
The Beam family has been making whiskey in Kentucky since 1795, and this one is overseen by seventh- and eighth-generation master distillers Fred and Freddie Noe at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont. Seven years in new charred white oak barrels gives it a depth and richness you simply can't fake, and bottling at 90 proof gives it enough backbone to stand up in a cocktail.
Pour a glass and you'll see a deep, rich gold. The nose leads with caramel and vanilla over a hint of oak. On the palate it's full-bodied and warm, with more caramel, vanilla and toasted oak, and the finish is long and smooth.
This is an everyday bourbon in the best possible sense. Sip it neat after work, pour it over a big rock, or build a proper Old Fashioned with a sugar cube, a few dashes of bitters and an orange peel. It also makes a seriously good Whiskey Sour.
The 1-liter size is the smart buy here: a little more bourbon for the home bar, the next game night, or the friends who always show up thirsty.
