Buffalo Trace has spent years using Old Charter Oak as a laboratory for one deceptively simple question: how much does the wood really matter? Past releases put the distillery's bourbon into Mongolian, French, Spanish, Canadian and Chinkapin oak. With Finest Oak, they came home.
This release goes into new charred barrels built by Canton Cooperage from hand-selected American white oak, with staves seasoned out in the open Kentucky air. The liquid inside is Buffalo Trace's Mash Bill #1, the same backbone behind some of the most sought-after bottles in bourbon. Strip away the exotic wood and what you get is a study in how far great American oak can push a great recipe.
On the nose, expect caramel and ripe berries. The palate leans rich and comforting, with vanilla and maple syrup up front and toffee and baking spice building underneath. The finish is long and layered: seasoned oak, a little dark chocolate and a crack of black pepper to close the door.
Finest Oak first appeared in the Buffalo Trace gift shop in spring 2026 in limited quantities, and it hasn't exactly been sitting on shelves since. If you've followed the Old Charter Oak series, this is the bottle that ties it all together. If you haven't, it's a terrific place to start.
Pour it neat, give it a minute in the glass, and add a drop of water if you want to coax out more of that maple and spice.
Limited availability. We have very few bottles.
