Origin and Production
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, located in the heart of Napa Valley, was founded by Warren Winiarski in 1972. His journey into winemaking began under the mentorship of the legendary Robert Mondavi. The winery gained international acclaim during the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting competition, where Winiarski's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded first place by esteemed French wine critics, surpassing renowned Bordeaux chateaux.
Tasting Notes
Artemis, named after the ancient Greek goddess associated with wild animals, showcases a blend of grapes sourced from some of Napa’s finest vineyards. A small portion of Merlot and Malbec is included, enhancing the wine's rich and smooth texture. After an 18-month maturation in a combination of American and French oak barrels, this Cabernet presents a powerful and ageworthy profile.
The nose is characterized by voluptuous notes of cassis, black cherry, and plum. On the palate, it offers a generous full body, showcasing handsome dark fruit, firm tannins, and a well-developed structure. This robust flavor profile pairs beautifully with hearty red meat dishes or can be held for further aging.
